DEFINITION – What does Deltoid mean?
Often referred to in gyms as ‘delts’ or simply, ‘shoulder muscles’, the deltoids form the rounded contour of each of your shoulders. Named for the Greek capital letter ‘delta’ due to their resemblance, this triangular muscle has three main fibre cores, the anterior, medial, and posterior. Each of these is woven into a thick tendon which inserts into a v-shaped groove in the humerus shaft.
FUNCTION – Deltoid Muscle
The delts manage the majority of all arm rotation, allow you to carry objects a safe distance from the body, and also help prevent dislocation, and injuries to the humerus due to heavy loads.
