DEFINITION – What does Occipitalis mean?

Deriving its name from the bone along which it is connected, and from the source of its blood supply, the occipitalis is also often referred to as the occipital belly. There is further disagreement on its form, with some labeling it a distinct muscle on its own while others assert that along with its brother the frontalis, it is part of the occipitofrontalis.

FUNCTION – Occipitalis Muscle

Controlled by the facial nerve, the singular purpose of the occipitalis is moving the scalp.
