Acupuncture for Fertility

Many people are often surprised to find that acupuncture has numerous uses. It’s not just for pain-related issues. It can also help with infertility (and much more!). In fact, fertility issues aren’t new to the modern world. They have been around for centuries.

And surprisingly, acupuncture can help improve infertility in males and females. How? Different factors cause infertility. Stress, anxiety, a low libido, and hormonal issues can all cause fertility problems in both men and women. However, acupuncture can help lower anxiety and stress, and also stimulate tissues and organs relating to fertility.

Let us explain!

How Acupuncture Works

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, disease or illness is caused by imbalances or disruptions in the body. This creates problems with the flow of energy. By performing acupuncture on certain acupuncture points throughout the body, balance can be restored.

In other words, thin needles are placed on certain points of the body. These needles stimulate the nerves, muscles, and tissue in the area. This stimulation amps up the blood flow to the area. It also causes your body to release endorphins – your body’s natural pain relievers. Thus, you feel better.

When it comes to fertility issues, you may feel your stress, and anxiety levels decrease. The needles may also stimulate the release of certain hormones necessary to conceive. The increased blood flow to the area may also help your body heal itself naturally. This means it impacts and resolves the problems causing your infertility issues. Although, it may vary on a case-by-case basis.

What Risk Are Involved?

Acupuncture poses few risks – especially if you are treated by a trained and experienced acupuncturist. Most qualified acupuncturists undergo 3 years of education and training, followed by a board-wide exam.

The risks of having acupuncture performed by an untrained individual include infection, bleeding, and possibly broken needles. This is why it’s best to make sure you are getting treated by someone with proper qualifications and experience.

What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?

At your first appointment, your acupuncturist will ask you questions regarding your condition. Your past medical history will also be taken. Carve out about an hour of your time to fill in the necessary paperwork, meet with your acupuncturist, and have your first treatment.

From their assessment, they will perform your first treatment. The needles may be inserted anywhere from 10 minutes to 60 minutes. However, for your first time, expect it to be closer to 10.

Afterward, they will discuss future appointments and follow-ups. It often takes many appointments for any effects or impacts to be made. Don’t expect to get pregnant after only one session.
