What is your sport: Hockey
Hockey is Canada’s official winter sport. It is an ice rink game played by 2 opposing teams consisting of 6 players on skates. The goal of the game is to get the puck into the opposing team’s net via the use of a hockey stick.
Most hockey players are skilled skaters. They can perform a variety of crossovers, pivots, and stops. This sport also requires excellent upper body coordination and core strength to properly stick handle and shoot the puck.
Common Muscle Injuries from Hockey
The most common hockey injuries include:
- Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Injury: Shoulder injuries frequently happen from hits from other players or from contact with the boards. A shoulder separation injury is one of the most common types of hockey injuries.
- Knee Ligament Injury: A quick change in direction or a hit from another player may result in a medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear or strain.
- Groin Strain: Quick changes in direction may also result in adductor or hip flexor strains or tears.
- Concussion: Head injuries are unfortunately somewhat common in hockey. A hard hit or fall can result in a concussion.
