If you have neck pain, back pain, migraines, headaches, depression, or other spinal injuries, Craniosacral Therapy is the right service for you.
Your treatment will begin with a short assessment which may include ROM testing. Your massage therapist will go over your health history and any issues you want to address. You may or may not be asked to partially undress and lie under the linens on the table.
Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle treatment. Your therapist will lightly manipulate the bones of your head, spinal column, and sacrum with about the pressure of the weight of a pencil. Using this minimum pressure, your therapist will be able to restore the bones’ natural positions, restoring balance and therefore reducing stress and pain throughout the body. Your individual treatment plan will be determined by what you present both verbally and what is ascertained from palpating your soft tissues.
It is important to maintain a dialogue on your comfort levels so your therapist can make adjustments with the pressure and techniques being utilized. Your therapist is trained to identify the source of your issue and treat it as needed.
After the massage, you may feel relaxed and rejuvenated. It’s important to drink plenty of water to help flush out any toxins that were released during the massage. Your therapist may also provide you with some aftercare advice, such as remedial exercises, stretching or self-massage techniques to help facilitate your rehabilitation and progress. A return date for your treatment plan will also be suggested to keep you on track.

In the late 1800s, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still discovered that many illnesses could be treated through careful manipulation of the musculoskeletal system – without the need for dangerous surgery or drugs. This was a major step forward in medical science and lead to the development of Manual Osteopathy. More than a century later – in the mid-1970s – Dr. John Upledger took it one step further and developed Craniosacral Therapy (CST).
Dr. John Upledger derived his ideas from William G. Sutherland. Sutherland began teaching a course at the American School of Osteopathy in the 1940s regarding Osteopathy in the Sacral Field. The course’s popularity and teaching grew. Upledger, a doctor of Osteopathy, later developed the protocol and steps used in CST today.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that uses subtle movements and pressure to balance the craniosacral system. This system includes the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Craniosacral therapy works by applying light touch and gentle pressure to various points on the body, particularly the head, neck, and sacrum. This helps to release restrictions in the craniosacral system, promoting the body’s natural healing processes and restoring balance.
Craniosacral therapy can be effective for a wide range of conditions, including headaches, migraines, neck and back pain, stress and tension-related disorders, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and many others. It is also commonly used to improve overall health and wellness, and to promote relaxation and stress relief.
Craniosacral therapy is generally considered safe for most people. It is a gentle, non-invasive technique that is unlikely to cause any harm. However, as with any form of bodywork, there may be certain individuals who are not good candidates for this type of therapy, so it is always important to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider before trying it.
