The Process

How Direct Billing Works

01

Book your appointment

Book online and you'll receive a waiver by email. Fill it in with your insurer name, plan number, member ID, and your relationship to the insured member.

02

Confirm your coverage

Contact your insurer directly to confirm you have massage therapy coverage and find out your annual limit. Some plans require a doctor's note.

03

We handle the claim

Show up to your appointment, we'll submit the claim on your behalf. If the claim can't be processed on the day, we'll provide a receipt for self-submission.

Before You Book

Direct billing is not guaranteed, here's what to expect

We always attempt to process your claim on the day of your appointment. However, insurer portals are occasionally unavailable, if that happens, payment is required at the time of service. We'll give you a detailed receipt so you can submit directly to your insurer for reimbursement.

We can't access your benefit balance ahead of time. Call your insurer before your appointment to confirm you have massage therapy coverage and check your remaining balance, it takes 5 minutes and avoids any surprises at the desk. Cancellations within 24 hours due to billing issues are subject to our cancellation policy.

Claims That Work Differently

Motor vehicle accident claims

Massage therapy after a collision is covered under Alberta's Section B no-fault insurance, regardless of who was at fault. This runs through your auto insurer rather than your extended health plan, so your massage benefits stay untouched. You will need your claim number and adjuster details. More on MVA and whiplash treatment.

Do you need a doctor's referral?

Not for most plans. A physician referral is not required for RMT coverage under the majority of extended health plans we bill. A few employer plans do require one before they will reimburse, so it is worth checking your booklet if you are unsure. Your receipt includes your therapist's registration number either way.

If you are covered by two plans

We can direct bill one plan per visit. If you have coverage through both your own employer and a spouse's, we bill the primary plan and give you an itemized receipt to submit to the second one yourself for the remaining balance.

When we cannot direct bill

Some plans do not support direct billing at all, and some claims are declined at the counter for reasons we cannot see, such as an exhausted annual maximum or a plan that has lapsed. When that happens we will tell you before you pay, take payment at the desk, and give you an itemized RMT receipt to submit yourself. Most insurers reimburse these within 5 to 10 business days.

FAQ

Common Questions

What is direct billing?

Direct billing lets us submit your insurance claim on your behalf at the time of your appointment, so you only pay any remaining balance instead of paying the full amount upfront and waiting for reimbursement.

Is direct billing guaranteed?

We always do our best, but direct billing cannot be guaranteed. Occasional system issues or plan restrictions can prevent processing. If that happens, we'll provide a receipt for you to submit yourself.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

It depends on your plan. Some insurers require a doctor's note for massage therapy. Check your policy or call your insurer before your appointment.

Can you check my remaining benefits before my appointment?

We're unable to access your benefit balance ahead of time. Contact your insurer directly to check your remaining coverage before booking.

What happens if my claim is declined on the day?

Payment is required at time of service. We'll provide a receipt so you can submit the claim to your insurer for reimbursement yourself.
