History of Ashiatsu & Thai Massage:

Thai Massage has an intriguing, fascinating, and vast history behind it, a lot of which has disappeared along with scriptures and texts across time. Yet, the founding of Thai Massage is attributed to Buddha’s physician, Shivago Komarapatr, thousands of years ago. Many documents boast about Shivago Komarapatr’s unique medical skills, involving herbal medications and his treatments, specifically those used on Buddha.

This knowledge and art of medicine spread, along with Buddhism. Thai Massage aspects and techniques were learned in monasteries and families throughout Thailand. Besides these brief facts, not a lot else is known about the origins of Thai Massage. Yet today, it’s been handed down through many generations and various times and eras. Registered massage therapists must now undergo formal training in order to offer and perform Thai Massage in Canada. In turn, it’s become a therapeutic go-to when it comes to releasing tension and relieving pain.

What to expect:

If you have issues of general tension or muscle aches and pains, an Ashiatsu Massage is the right service for you.

Your Ashiatsu Massage appointment may range from 60 minutes to 2 hours including the assessment time, however a 90+ minute treatment is usually recommended to get the full benefits. Your treatment will begin with a short one-on-one assessment. This is your opportunity to point out what areas you’d like to work on during your time, as well as identify any special requests or concerns you may have. During your assessment, expect to answer questions regarding your health history including injuries and surgeries, leisure activities, work routines, areas of concern, and pain levels. These questions help the massage therapist align their treatment plan with your specific goals.

Your therapist uses an overhead bar system to support themselves and facilitate the use of their feet and support their body. They will utilize: Deep Pressure Massage Techniques, Acupressure, Stretching, Twisting, and Joint Manipulations. This is why it can typically take longer than a standard therapeutic massage. The treatment takes place on a heavy duty massage table with an overhead bar system. You may or may not remain clothed for your entire treatment. As such, please wear items that you can move comfortably in.

Make sure to communicate with your therapist throughout your massage. If you are uncomfortable in any way, do not hesitate to let your therapist know.
