Your head, sacrum, and spinal column are the central components of your body’s physiology. Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST) uses gentle techniques on these areas to alleviate stress by releasing compression. In addition to providing relief from jaw, neck, and back pain, CST also helps manage the debilitating pain of migraine headaches. What is Cranial Sacral Therapy?
In the late 1800s, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still discovered that many illnesses could be treated through careful manipulation of the musculoskeletal system, without the need for dangerous surgery or drugs. This was a major step forward in medical science.
More than a century later, in the mid-1970s, Dr. John Upledger took it one step forward and developed Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST). CST is a manual procedure where therapists, using a very light touch (about the weight of a pencil) manipulate the bones of the head, spinal column, and sacrum. Each of the three areas are vital for the healthy functioning of your nervous system, and when out of balance, havoc can ensue. Therapists apply minimal pressure to restore the bones’ natural positions, reducing stress and pain throughout the body. There are a wide range of bodily issues which are potentially affected by CST, including aches in the neck and lower back, headaches, depression, spinal injuries, and migraines.
