The Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan (ASEBP) provides health and dental coverage to eligible Alberta school board employees and their dependents. ASEBP extended health plans include coverage for Registered Massage Therapy, with no doctor’s referral required.
Coverage
ASEBP extended health plans may include coverage for Registered Massage Therapy (RMT). Coverage amounts, annual maximums, and eligible practitioner requirements vary by plan. Your RMT receipt from ACM includes your therapist’s registration number, session date, duration, and fee — everything your provider needs to process the claim.
How it works
ACM submits your claim directly to ASEBP at the time of your appointment — you pay nothing out of pocket for the covered portion. To process your claim on the day, make sure your insurance information is entered on your intake form before you arrive.
What to have ready
- Your ASEBP plan number and member ID
- Your relationship to the plan holder (if you’re a dependent)
- Any authorization number your plan requires in advance
We can’t verify your coverage before your appointment — contact ASEBP directly to confirm your annual limit and remaining balance before you book.
Note: while we process direct billing successfully in the vast majority of cases, it is not guaranteed. If your claim can’t be processed on the day, we’ll provide a receipt for manual submission to your insurer.

FAQ
Does ASEBP cover massage therapy?
Yes. ASEBP covers RMT services under extended health benefits for eligible employees and dependents. Most plans provide a set annual dollar maximum — check your ASEBP member portal for your current balance and plan year (ASEBP plan years typically run September to August).
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. ASEBP does not require a physician referral for massage therapy coverage. Your RMT receipt from ACM is sufficient for your claim.
How do I check my remaining coverage?
Log into your ASEBP member portal or call the number on the back of your benefits card. ACM can’t access your plan details — only you or your plan administrator can confirm your remaining balance.
What if my direct billing claim is declined?
We’ll let you know right away and process payment directly. We’ll give you an itemized RMT receipt to submit to ASEBP for manual reimbursement — most plans process these within 5–10 business days.
