Electric Muscle Stimulation

Edmonton | Sherwood Park

Electric Muscle Stimulation Training, or EMS training, sounds like a futuristic technique or service. But the future is right now. When used under the supervision of a trained professional, EMS training is a very efficient, effective, and safe method to treat injuries, muscle weaknesses, and muscle imbalances. Interestingly, without EMS, your muscles only activate about 30% of your muscle fibers. When these fibers fatigue, the other ones are activated. But with EMS, 100% of your muscle fibers are stimulated contributing to improving strength and improved muscular balance. It can also help you recover after an injury by helping you strengthen muscles around the affected area. By having stronger muscles, your injured area gets the support it needs. At Athlete’s Choice Massage, our team is trained in using EMS to improve your recovery and accelerate your body’s healing. That way, you can get back to the activities you know and love faster than ever before.

Exploring Chiropractic Therapy: The Role of TENS and EMS

What to expect during your Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) Training session:

If you want to improve your overall health and wellness, rehabilitate an injury or imbalance, increase strength, and manage your weight, EMS Training is the right service for you.

Your personal trainer will start with a thorough assessment of your overall body health. You’ll be asked about your medical history, fitness habits, lifestyle routines, and any areas of concern you may have. Your trainer will perform various tests and assessments to determine your body mechanics, strength levels, and conditioning. They will discuss what your goals are with you to determine the best plan to achieve them while fitting your busy life.

Your plan will include supervised training, activities at home, prescribed stretches, and advice on nutrition. Rehabilitation methods may also use include mobilization techniques, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, as well as education. You can schedule your sessions as frequently as needed, typically 2 – 3 times per week to allow for muscle recovery and continuous progress. You will receive positive motivation and guidance throughout your whole journey.

EMS training can be intense and may cause muscle soreness or fatigue, especially if it’s your first time. It’s important to listen to your body and communicate with your trainer if you feel any discomfort. Follow proper technique: Proper technique is essential for getting the most out of your EMS training session and avoiding injury. Pay close attention to your trainer’s instructions and ask questions if you’re unsure about any movements or exercises.

During training you will wear a harness that connects to the EMS system. You will be provided with fitted athletic clothing that is specifically used to fit the electrodes to the targeted area. Please bring proper indoor footwear for exercising, such as comfortable running or training shoes. It’s important to drink plenty of water, so be sure to bring a water bottle. You may also want to bring a notebook to record your progress. We focus on health rather than weight so we don’t do weigh-ins.

History of Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS):

Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) has a long history dating back to ancient Rome, where it was used to aid in the recovery of injured gladiators. In the 18th century, Luigi Galvani discovered that electrical current could stimulate muscle contractions. However, it wasn’t until the mid-20th century that EMS was developed as a tool for physical therapy and sports training

The Russian space program also played a significant role in the development of EMS technology, using it to maintain muscle mass and bone density in cosmonauts during long periods of space travel. Today, EMS is widely used in sports training and rehabilitation, as well as in cosmetic treatments such as muscle toning and cellulite reduction.

Frequently Asked Question

DRIVEN

EMS is a therapeutic technique that uses electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contraction, promoting muscle strength and healing.

The electrodes of an EMS machine are placed on the skin over the targeted muscle group. The electrical impulses mimic the natural signals sent by the nervous system to contract muscles, causing the muscles to contract and relax repeatedly.

EMS can help with muscle strengthening, recovery from injuries, pain relief, and improved blood flow. It can also be used as a supplement to traditional exercise to increase muscle activation.

EMS is generally considered safe when used properly by a qualified healthcare professional. However, it is not recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as epilepsy, pacemaker implants, or pregnant women.

EMS sessions can range from 10-60 minutes, depending on the individual’s needs and goals. A qualified healthcare professional will determine the appropriate length and intensity of the session based on the individual’s condition and response to treatment.
