About EMS Training

EMS training involves the electric stimulation device and the placement of electrodes on the targeted or affected area of your body. These electrodes are attached to the device via wires.  Your trainer will demonstrate and prescribe exercises suitable for you during your EMS training session. Usually, the EMS device feels like a slight tingling sensation where the electrodes are applied.

EMS training has many benefits, including:

  • Decreased pain.
  • Increased blood flow.
  • Decreased inflammation and swelling.
  • Increased range of motion.
  • Better muscle coordination.
  • Improved body awareness.
  • Neuromuscular retraining after injury.

Reduces or prevents muscle atrophy (wasting).

What to expect during your EMS training:

At Athlete’s Choice Massage, your comfort comes first. As such, you’ll want to fitted, athletic clothing to your EMS training session. This makes it easy to fit the electrodes to the targeted area. You’ll also want to ensure you wear proper footwear for exercising, such as comfortable running or training shoes.

At your assessment, you’ll be asked about your medical history, your areas of concern or focus. Your trainer will also perform various tests and assessments to determine the best treatment path for your unique situation.

Your training plan will be tailored to your personal fitness level and body mechanics issues. You can schedule your sessions as frequently as needed, typically 2 to 3 times per week to allow for muscle recovery and continuous progress.

Rehabilitation techniques and methods they may also use include mobilization techniques, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, other at-home and prescribed stretches, and education.
