DEFINE – What is the Activator Method Chiropractic Technique?

The activator method chiropractic technique is a diagnostic system commonly used by chiropractors to assess pain in the back, neck, and head, including headaches.

BREAKING DOWN – Activator Method Chiropractic Technique

When using the Activator Method Chiropractic Technique, chiropractors will use a tool called an Activator Adjusting Instrument. This helps evaluate the pain in the patient, and also treat it by bringing motion back to the affected area.

The Activator Adjusting Instrument is one of the most important tools in a chiropractor’s repertoire. It works by applying gentle pressure to a small area with an impulse force, and can be viewed as an alternative method to the traditional manual back adjustments associated with the profession. In other words, it provides enough force to adjust the spine and vertebrae, but not injure it nor cause pain.

There are 4 different types of Activator instruments used within the field of chiropractic, which vary in how they function and what they can treat.

The biggest advantage of this technique is that the quick nature of the impulse force will bypass the body’s ability to tense the muscles. Most chiropractic techniques require that the patient is completely at ease, and doesn’t tense up their muscles in anticipation. Another benefit of the technique is that it doesn’t require the same manipulation of the limbs as the manual adjustment techniques. This reduces the risk of further injury, and greatly simplifies and speeds up the process.

To apply the Activator Method, practitioners must complete a proficiency training course, in order to get the necessary certificate. This gives the practitioner more options, and allows them to utilise another technique in their practice. It’s further a very common technique used by chiropractors in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

The Activator Method Chiropractic Technique is a gentle, low-force chiropractic technique that uses a handheld instrument called an Activator to deliver precise adjustments to the spine and other joints. The technique is based on the principles of biomechanics and neurology and is designed to restore proper alignment and function to the body.

During an Activator Method adjustment, the chiropractor uses the Activator instrument to apply a quick, low-force impulse to a specific area of the spine or joint. This impulse is designed to restore proper motion and alignment to the joint, without the twisting or cracking movements used in traditional chiropractic adjustments.

Yes, the Activator Method is generally considered safe and effective for people of all ages, including infants and the elderly. Because it is a low-force technique, it is less likely to cause injury or discomfort than traditional chiropractic adjustments.

The Activator Method can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, and joint pain. It is also commonly used to treat sports injuries and to improve athletic performance. The technique can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and can be used in conjunction with other therapies to promote overall health and wellness.
