How can a Manual Osteopathic appointment help you?

Osteopaths can help treat:

  • Digestion issues
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Acid reflux
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • And nervous system issues (such as numbness, tingling, and sciatica).

Unlike traditional modern medicine which focuses on managing symptoms, Manual Osteopathy is a holistic approach. It focuses on your lifestyle and your body. An osteopath can help you identify factors from your daily routines that, over time, could lead to an injury. This approach fosters self-awareness, encouraging people to play a part in their own recovery.

The benefits of Manual Osteopathy include:

  • Improvements in flexibility, endurance, and raw power
  • Reduced fibrous adhesions
  • Increase range of motion
  • Enhanced muscle tone
  • Decreased pain and stiffness in joints and muscles
  • Decreased tension headaches
  • Increased blood circulation
  • And reduced blood pressure

History of Manual Osteopathy:

In the late 1800s, Andrew Taylor Still MD was credited as first using the term ‘Osteopathy.’ When regular conventional medicine failed to save his wife and daughters from meningitis, Still changed his views on the conventional way. He determined that there had to be a better way than resorting to drugs and highly invasive practices.

In 1892, Still founded the first Manual Osteopathy school called the American School of Osteopathy. The focus and basis in the practices taught were aimed at restoring harmony and balance in the body. Since then, Osteopathy has evolved and spread into a worldwide alternative medicine practice.

What to expect:

If you have ongoing pain, imbalances, digestive problems, headaches, stress, etc., Manual Osteopathy is the service for you.

Your first Manual Osteopathy appointment will last 60 minutes with follow-up appointments ranging from 30-45 minutes. Your manual osteopath will start with an extremely in depth assessment. This may take the entire 60 minutes of your initial appointment. They want to obtain a complete understanding of your body as a whole. Expect to answer questions regarding your health history, lifestyle, and pain levels. From this assessment, your Manual Osteopath will determine barriers within your body contributing to your complaint. Your overall treatment plan will address these issues – ultimately, restoring balance to the body. The treatment may incorporate: movement, exercise, stretching, massage, palpation of the body, organs or tissues, low velocity manipulations, etc.
