But, what is causing numbness and/or tingling down my legs?
The most frequent cause stems from the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body. When it becomes compressed or irritated, numbness and tingling may be felt in the low back, buttocks, and down the legs.
This can happen due to a number of things. Tight muscles (such as the piriformis muscle, one of the deep external rotators), a slipped disc, or joint issues may lead to sciatic nerve irritation.
Occasionally and in more rare cases, the issue may be a direct problem in the leg.
