ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM A ROTATOR CUFF INJURY?
Your rotator cuff is a series of tendons and muscles that surround your shoulder joint and keep the head of your upper arm bone locked into the shoulder socket. Every time your shoulder moves, your rotator cuff stabilizes the joint. An injury of your rotator cuff will usually lead to a dull ache within your shoulder which gets worse when you apply pressure such as when sleeping. What can cause rotator cuff injury?
Rotator cuff injuries can be either acute (short term) or chronic (long term). If you’re a painter or an electrician, or if you enjoy playing sports such as tennis or baseball, you are at higher risk for chronic rotator cuff injury, referred to as tendinitis. Generally, people whose job or hobbies involve overhead motions or heavy lifting, are affected. In most of these cases, injury occurs as a result of chronic overuse and/or tissue degeneration (wearing out) and likelihood increases with age.
On the other hand, a rotator cuff injury could be acute; the result of an overexertion or accident as in the case of a fall or accident. Acute injuries typically have immediate, intense pain.
