The sacrum forms the posterior portion that outlines the pelvic cavity. It also forms part of the sacroiliac joints. These joints are where the sacrum connects to the hip bones. The sacroiliac joints actually support almost the entire weight of the body, transmitting forces through the hips and legs. Due to its shock-absorbing capabilities, this area is also well-known for causing back pain issues due to inflammation and dysfunction.
