What is your sport: Weightlifting

Weightlifting is a sport frequently competed under individual lifts, such as the deadlift, squat, and clean press. The winner usually has lifted the most maximum amount of weight per 1 rep.

Interestingly, this sport dates back to the days in Ancient Greece. Who could lift the heaviest has been a long time competition amongst men. The women’s category did not exist until the 1980s. Today, there are various lifts that athletes compete under, as well as varying categories.

Weightlifting, as a sport and competition, requires great discipline. Training, including nutrition and physical elements, require focus and long-term commitment. Further, it’s of utmost important for athletes to get their form down pat. Injuries may arise if their technique is inadequate, especially if they go to progress or increase their weight factor for their lift.
