Supraspinatus Muscle

DEFINITION – What does Supraspinatus mean?
A somewhat small muscle of the upper back, the Supraspinatus is situated in the supraspinatus fossa just behind the shoulder blade. One of the four rotator cuff muscles, it stretches horizontally to the spine of the scapula where it is connected to a strong, flat tendon.
FUNCTION – Supraspinatus Muscle
This muscle receives its control from the suprascapular nerve which triggers horizontal abduction, or in layman’s terms, helps you raise your arms. It also prevents the head of the humerus from slipping inferiorly.
